NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will begin the 2012-13 season at Nebraska, competing at the Fairway Club Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Arbor Links Golf Course in Nebraska City.

The Arbor Links golf course, a par-72, 7,158-yard layout, will host 12 teams. Playing from the Missouri Valley Conference along with Illinois State will be Creighton, Drake and Missouri State. Rounding out the field will be Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State, SIU-Edwardsville and Western Illinois.

After coming off a rough season last year, the Redbirds look to regain momentum at this week's tournament.

"After competing within the squad over the past couple weeks, I am excited to start our tournament season," head coach Ray Kralis said. "I have seen many positives already from the group and am confident we are moving in the right direction. While there is no question the talent is there, we need to be mentally tough from start to finish. That will certainly be a major point of emphasis this week."

Competing in the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds will be junior Wils Hawn, who competed in 34 rounds during the 2011-12 season, finishing with a season-stroke average of 75.3.

Parker Freiburg will be in the No. 2 spot for the Redbirds. The junior from Quincy, Ill., finished last season with a season-stroke average of 77.2. Senior Ricky Hearden will be in the No. 3 spot. Hearden competed in 34 rounds during 2011-12 season, finishing with a season- stroke average of 75.2, the best average amongst last year's team.

The freshman duo of Tyler Pope-Ferguson and Tyler Gentilella will compete in the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively, both making their Redbird debut.
