Enter, Mr. Sandman: a beautiful iPad book-app for children

Yes, we over-use the word beautiful sometimes. But Mr. Sandman deserves it. Released quietly onto the App Store, this iPad storybook is a lovely piece of work.

Its store listing is pretty sparse: ?Mr. Sandman? brings a fresh innovative way to tell stories to children.?Dive into stunning visuals from the dark forest to the starry sky.?Follow the captivating music of this new original adventure.?Let your feelings guide your journey, as you go through the story.?Listen, guess, feel, tell.?

We were intrigued, so we paid ?2.99 to download it, and spent the next 10 minutes goggling at the pretty pictures.

Interactivity is deliberately limited to specific actions that push the story on. Including saying ?Ssh!? to send some frogs to sleep, scratching an owl?s belly, and spinning scenery on what looks like a vinyl record (which, marvellously, scratches the background music).

The music is lush, and there?s a choice of languages. All in all, ?2.99 well spent on Mr. Sandman. We?re looking forward to see what else developer Hocusbookus has up its sleeves for future apps.
